If you’re going to be strict about it, using a representation of the US flag as ANYTHING OTHER THAN A FLAG (whether beach towel, sunglasses, hijab, or bikini) is disrespectful. Because few people are that strict (and whether or not you should be that strict is beyond the scope of this post), everyone should be allowed to express themselves however they wish.

That’s one.

Two, this woman, presumably of the Muslim faith, is choosing to express herself in a way that shows her patriotism AND allows her to remain within the tenets of her faith. I would think that such an act would be applauded by folks who ascribe patriotic feelings for the US to, for example, YHWH or Jesus of Nazareth, since FREEDOM OF RELIGION AND ALL THAT I DON’T KNOW GAH.

My rant is not well-thought-out. I’ll go back to drinking my coffee.

I wish I had something useful to contribute but this hits a little too close to home and I’m seething.
